Sidewalk supervision on Van Slyke Avenue for morning arrival is provided daily between 7:50am - 8:10am. Students arriving after 8:10 a.m. must enter through the building’s Main Entrance and sign in at the Front Office (see Attendance Policy for more information on tardy procedures).

As winter continues amid a new phase of construction, we have an update that we hope makes morning arrival more efficient for everyone who drives to school. 

In order to help the morning car line on Van Slyke be more efficient, we encourage families with middle schoolers to drop-off students on the following nearby streets, and these students can walk to school, crossing Como Ave where we have crossing guards at Oxford and Van Slyke Avenues: 

• Churchill (west of school)

• Chatsworth (east of school)

• Jessamine and Argyle (south of school)

All driving families: please avoid parking and dropping off on Como Ave and Oxford Ave for now. The buses need room to use both streets each morning and afternoon, and the construction closures and snow make these roads even more congested. 

We ask all families to drive with caution and be aware of more students walking through the neighborhood to school. 

We are not making any changes to dismissal procedures at this time, but we hope this change makes mornings more efficient and less stressful for families.

Students are dismissed from school at 3:15pm. Students remaining at school after 3:30pm without adult supervision, and/or with no dismissal plan indicated in PikMyKid will be directed to the Front Office.

1. Do not get out of your car unless absolutely necessary

2. Avoid pulling in front of anyone, even if you see a space open ahead

3. Avoid using your phone during pick-up

4. Pull as far forward in the line of vehicles as possible

5. DO NOT let students exit the car until you are at the marked “Loading Zone”

• Drive slowly and stop for pedestrians AT ALL TIMES.

• School provided green signs are required for student pick up. Place on the front door of your vehicle with the full name, grade, and class of all students you are picking up at TCGIS (Ex. John Doe 3B).

• Do not park on Van Slyke or Como Avenue on either side of the street between 7am and 5pm.

• Please have children exit or enter on the sidewalk side of the car.

• To avoid traffic and idling, we ask that you do not arrive excessively early for pick up.

• By law, cars must remain 5 feet clear of all driveways and alleys and avoid parking in carriage walks and in front of fire hydrants.

• During drop off, please be attentive - there is significant sun glare on Van Slyke Ave and exiting the driver's side (parents or children) is very dangerous.

In efforts to be a good neighbor, the school has committed to doing our best to leave at least one parking space available in front of each home in our immediate neighborhood. We also ask that drivers be mindful of not blocking street access paths. We ask that adults parking in the neighborhood to walk students to school maintain this expectation. If you feel your student(s) may need special accommodations/assistance during drop off/pick up procedures, please contact Nicole Sveen at nsveen@tcgis.org.

Many students walk to school. Please be sure children walking on their own understand and practice safe pedestrian practices. If you wish to park in the neighborhood and walk students directly to school, please avoid parking on Como Avenue and Van Slyke Avenue. There is ample street parking on Churchill, Oxford, Argyle and Jessamine.

Students and staff who wish to bike to school, can park their bikes next to the Van Slyke entrance. Bike racks are available next to the sidewalk.
