The Need
The Twin Cities German Immersion School was founded in 2005 with only 40 students in 2 sections of kindergarten. In 2020, pre-COVID enrollment trends forecast TCGIS would reach its full capacity in 2020, with 645 students and 3 sections per grade k-8. With additional students comes potential for more traffic and congestion during drop-offs and pick-ups. Much has already been done to streamline this process. The school now uses an app to help make pick-up more efficient, and we now have four school buses. Still, there are opportunities to improve safety, reduce traffic and lessen the impact on the environment.
Our goal
We propose to improve communications between the school and our parent-teacher community by providing easy access to all transportation information, including alternatives to driving and tips for safe drop-off and pick-up. We hope to reduce our impact on the environment as a community, improve the efficiency and safety of drop-off/pick-up, and promote better relationships with our neighbors.
